Suspect tries to rob man walking on South Haven street

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) – A man was walking on Water Street in South Haven when an African American male tried to rob him Sunday.

The victim was walking on Water Street near Maple Street around noon Saturday when the suspect came up to him demanding money, according to a South Haven Police Department news release.

The suspect implied he had a gun and would shoot the man in the head. Then the victim was able to get the attention of a nearby officer. Officer Sam Cox of the South Haven Police Department arrested the suspect without any incident, the release said.

The suspect is a 23-year-old African American male from Muskegon who had a warrant for auto theft from Muskegon County. He is now at the Van Buren County Jail without bond, according to the release.
