Man who stabbed pregnant woman sentenced

Daniel Surline. (November 2012)

IONIA, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Ledge man who stabbed a woman pregnant has been sentenced to prison.

Daniel Surline was sentenced Tuesday in Ionia County Circuit Court to between 12 and 30 years behind bars.

The assault happened in November 2012 at Surline’s ex-girlfriend’s Lake Odessa mobile home. The victim — a friend of the ex-girlfriend who was eight weeks pregnant at the time — was sleeping on the couch of the home.

She sustained injuries to her head, chest and hand. The baby was not hurt.

Surline meant to attack his ex-girlfriend, but it was dark and he did not realize who he had attacked until his ex-girlfriend walked into the room.

Surline, 39, pleaded guilty in April to assault with intent to murder and a misdemeanor stalking charge.
