Teen crashes stolen car after police chase

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A teen is in custody after allegedly stealing a vehicle and then leading police on a chase in Kalamazoo.

The vehicle was reported stolen around 2 a.m. Wednesday. Within minutes, an officer located the vehicle in the area of Stadium Drive and Howard Street.

The officer attempted to stop the 16-year-old suspect, but he continued driving on Howard.

He then lost control and hit a curb on Howard Street; however, he continued to flee police westbound on Stadium Drive.kzoo chase 06 25 14

The suspect lost control again and crashed into parked vehicles at the Express Auto business located at 2828 Stadium Drive, rolling the car onto its side. He was treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

The 16-year-old suspect and Kalamazoo resident was found in possession of a loaded handgun.

The teen was arrested on several charges including Fleeing and Eluding, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and an outstanding warrant. He is being held at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home.
