GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A former Rockford pastor and seminary professor who climbed ladder to watch a couple have sex has been sentenced.

Jeremy Grinnell was sentenced Thursday to five years probation and 80 hours on a work crew.

On Nov. 7, 2013, climbed a ladder to look through a second-story window of a Cannon Township house. He watched the woman who lives there and her partner in the nude for about 20 seconds before the partner saw him. Grinnell then took off. When he returned the next night to do the same thing, he was arrested.

He said he was there to pray for the woman, authorities said at the time.

In May, Grinnell pleaded guilty to a charge of surveilling an unclothed person.

Grinnell previously worked as a pastor at Bella Vista Church in Rockford. He resigned from that post after the incident. He also worked as an assistant theology professor at Cornerstone University’s seminary.
