Battling obesity, one step at a time

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) One year ago the American Heart Association declared obesity a disease. It’s something that affects more than one third of American adults. Our experts at Mercy Health, have programs to help. Dr. Paul Kemmeter talks about the physiology of obesity.

He says there is more to weight loss than diet and exercise when it comes to treating obesity. Studies have shown that body weight is maintained at a stable range known as the “set-point.” The body is more efficient at protecting against weight loss when caloric intake is reduced. Bariatric surgery can establish a new set-point.

To learn more about the options Mercy Health has to offer there are several free weight-loss seminars coming up.
