Fire officials: Fire at Fox Pools not arson

A fire destroyed Fox Pools Warehouse and Showroom on June 25, 2014.

ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – The cause of the fire that destroyed a local pool business in Kent County is not suspected to be arson, fire officials said Friday.

On Wednesday morning, a fire sparked at Fox Pools Warehouse and Showroom in the 6400 block of Alpine Avenue in Alpine Township, north of Grand Rapids.

After starting to extinguish the fire, fire officials decided to let the fire burn itself out due to environmental concerns, according to the Alpine Township Fire Department.

Fire officials said that in order to put of the fire, firefighters would have been required to use “tens of thousands of gallons of water,” and the pool chemicals stored at the business could have contaminated the ground water from the firefighting water runoff.

No one was injured in the incident.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
