Sister of missing Detroit boy defends dad

WYOMING, Mich (WOOD) –The sister of Charlie Bothuell, who went missing in Detroit for 11-days, is defending her dad after allegations of child abuse have come forward.

Cherrelle Bothuell is Charlie’s older sister and lives in Wyoming. She said the way her father is being portrayed in the media is not accurate.

“He’s a wonderful father, he’s a loving father. He has a soft heart. And the person they are trying to make him out to be on national TV is ridiculous, because that is not him at all,” Cherrelle Bothuell said.
Charlie Bothuell went missing in Detroit on June 16.

“My initial reaction was one of shock,” Cherrelle Bothuell said.

He was found 11-days later in the basement of his dad Charlie Bothuell IV.

“I know he didn’t know he was in the basement. My father would never do anything to hurt his kids. He just wants the best for us,”
Since he was found attention has been turned to Charlie’s father and his stepmom Monique Dillard-Bothuell. According to court documents Bothuell allegedly used a PVC pipe to discipline his son. A PVC pipe was found in the home with blood on it, those documents say.

Those documents also say little Charlie told investigators his stepmother put him in the basement and told him to “not come out no matter what he hears.”

A source has told Detroit station WDIV that the dad had Charlie on a strict diet and forced him to do 4,000 strides on an elliptical trainer without a break.

“As far as the weight loss thing that is totally exaggerated. He made me run a mile every morning. But I lost weight, I was happy, I was healthy. We practiced healthy choices, we had a healthy diet. I really did love the life style he was trying to provide for us,” Cherrelle Bothuel said.
Cherrelle said her dad required the exercise because diabetes runs in the family and he didn’t want his kids to become diabetic. Question still remain about where the boy was during the 11 days.

“My father has nothing to hide. He would never do anything like that,” Cherrelle Bothuel said.

Cherrelle said anything is possible and that her brother is very smart for his age.

“I’m not going to point the fingers at anybody. I’ll just say that my brother is very very intelligent, as are all my fathers kids.”
