Driver tells police man jumped or fell from overpass

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — The driver of a truck tells police a man either fell or jump from an overpass as the truck drove underneath Saturday.

Around 11 p.m. Saturday, police were sent to the area of southbound M-66 on a report of a man lying on the side of the under the Columbia Avenue overpass in Battle Creek, according to a Battle Creek Police Department news release.

When they got to the scene, police found a man in his late 50s dead on the side of the road with debris from a Chrysler-Dodge truck, according to the release. Witness told police the man jumped or fell from the bridge.

Police asked for the driver of the truck to come forward for questioning. The driver came to the BCPD and gave a statement.

After speaking with the driver, police confirmed that the man either jumped or fell from the overpass, hitting the vehicle driving underneath, the release said.

The driver is only considered a witnesses and will not face any criminal charges, according to police.
