Pedestrian hit, killed by Amtrak train in Galesburg

GALESBURG, Mich. (WOOD) — A teenager was killed Monday evening when he was hit by an Amtrak passenger train in Galesburg.

It happened around 6:50 p.m. near the intersection of Burgess Drive and Battle Creek Street.

Train No. 358 struck Tyler Beischl, 16, on Amtrak property, a spokesperson for the company said. Police confirmed Tyler’s identity Tuesday afternoon.

The train was about seven miles out of the Kalamazoo Amtrak station — from which it had just departed — as it ran its route from Chicago to Pontiac at the time of the incident, according to the Amtrak spokesperson.

There were 205 passengers and crew members on board. There were no other reported injuries.
