COLFAX TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed in a single-car crash and resulting fire southeast of Big Rapids Tuesday.

It happened just before 9:40 a.m. at the intersection of 160th Avenue and McKinley Road in Colfax Township, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say David Doxtader, 54, of Big Rapids was driving his pickup truck north on 160th at a “very high rate of speed.” They say the truck never stopped at the McKinley Road stop sign.

The truck crossed the intersection and hit a large tree, uprooting it. The truck then caught fire.

Doxtader died at the scene.

No one else was in his vehicle, which was the only one involved.
