GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A 33-year-old man has been arrested in the shooting of a security officer at a Spectrum Health parking ramp in downtown Grand Rapids.
Horace Demario Collins was arrested on an unrelated parole violation Thursday, according to a release from the Grand Rapids Police Department.
Collins is facing four charges in the parking ramp shooting, including assault with intent to murder and three weapons charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm, the release said. He’s also facing a charge of habitual offender-fourth offense.
On the evening of June 23, police say Collins shot a security officer in a Spectrum Health employee parking ramp near Lafayette Avenue and Michigan Street.
The security officer approached Collins while he was trying to break into a vehicle in the ramp, according to police.
The security officer received non-life threatening injuries in the shooting.
Collins is expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Grand Rapids District Court.
