GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – A father convicted of killing his young daughter will spend the rest of his life in prison.

DeShawn Threats was sentenced Tuesday afternoon in front of Judge Kenneth Johnson in Kent County Circuit Court. In June, Threats was convicted of felony murder in the death of 2-year-old Zaeyana Driggs-Threats.

Investigators said Threats kicked and hit his daughter, who died from internal bleeding in August 2013. The little girl was found with bruising on her face, arms, lower back, torso and head.

Zaeyana’s autopsy also showed the she had rib fractures that she had suffered a month to six weeks before she died.

While Threats had nothing to say before leaving the courtroom after he was sentenced Tuesday, Zaeyana’s mother did.

“You were supposed to be the man she looked up to and protected her,” she said. “You beat my child like she was a grown man.”
