Body of missing kayaker found in Muskegon Lake

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — Crews pulled the body of a missing kayaker out of Muskegon Lake Tuesday night.

Vincent Jones, 53, of Muskegon was reported missing by family members after leaving for a kayaking trip around noon Tuesday.

Jones’ kayak was found abandoned on the shoreline of Muskegon Lake near the Lakeshore Yacht Harbor on Lakeshore Drive.

Helicopters, boats, and first responders searched for two hours before the victim was located by a Muskegon fire boat around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Jones was found unresponsive in Muskegon Lake, north of the channel to the Great Lakes Marina. Medical first responders on scene were unable to revive Jones who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The medical examiner’s office has ordered an autopsy to be performed.
