EMMETT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An Emmett Township firefighter was injured by a falling tree while working to assist those impacted by storms that swept through southwest Michigan early Tuesday morning.

The firefighter was working near Verona and 10 Mile Roads in the early morning hours Tuesday when the tree fell and hit him in the shoulder and back, Emmett Township Department of Public Safety Lt. Tony Geigle
told 24 Hour News 8.

Geigle said the firefighter was taken to the hospital by ambulance in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Emmett Township was hit hard by the storm system that left many residents without power and debris littering roadways.
