South Haven man critical after motorcycle crash

MARCELLUS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 71-year-old man is hospitalized in critical condition after he crashed his motorcycle in Marcellus Township.

According to Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood Junior, deputies were called to investigate the crash on M40, north of Dutch Settlement Road.

Deputies say 71-year-old Jerry Hartsfield from South Haven was headed north on M-40 when he lost control of his motorcycle, flipped the bike and landed in a ditch.

Hartsfield was airlifted to the hospital and is in critical condition.

Deputies said he was not wearing a helmet. Officials believe alcohol may be a factor. The crash is under investigation.
