1 dead, 1 hurt in Kzoo shooting

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed and another wounded in a Sunday evening shooting in Kalamazoo.

It happened around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Norway Avenue and Church Street.

Authorities say a fist fight involving a large group of people escalated to multiple people firing shots.

When police arrived on the scene, they found one man shot in the leg. That person’s condition was not immediately known.

Another man later arrived at Bronson Methodist Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. That man , identified Tuesday as 30-year-old Orlando David Walker, did not survive.

Sunday night, police said they were awaiting a search warrant for a residence believed to be connected to one of the shooters. They were working to prepare suspect information.

The shooting was the fourth in Kalamazoo this weekend. A total of six people were shot, including Sunday evening’s fatality. Sunday’s shooting was not believed to be connected to any other incident.
