Motorcyclist killed in crash near Whitehall

WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Whitehall Sunday evening.

It happened around 7:00 p.m. on White Lake Road near Durham Road, according to the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office.

After investigating, deputies said that 58-year-old Vergil Hollis Edwards was traveling east on a 1982 Yamaha motorcycle on White Lake Drive when the bike went off the roadway into a ditch and hit a utility pole.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by White Lake Ambulance personnel.

Witnesses told deputies they saw the bike all over the road in the area just prior to the crash.

The accident is still under investigation, and it is unknown if alcohol was a factor.

The driver was not wearing a helmet.
