Driver in crash after murder-suicide located

ROYALTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) —  Authorities say a the victim of a murder-suicide in Berrien County was dead before she was hit by a car as she lay in the road.

Michigan State Police say Delaina Tripp, 41, was shot and killed by her husband early Monday morning. Her husband David Tripp, 56, then took his own life, according to MSP.

Delaina Tripp was shot in the road near the couple’s Royalton Township home, east of Stevensville. MSP says she was also hit by a Honda Accord that then took off.

A Tuesday morning autopsy indicated Delaina Tripp was already dead when she was struck by the car, a release from MSP said.

The driver of the Accord, a 29-year-old man from Mishawaka, Ind., came forward to Lincoln Township police after MSP said it was looking for the vehicle and driver.

MSP examined the vehicle involved. The driver, who is being treated as a witness, was interviewed.

Once MSP’s investigation is complete, it will be forwarded to the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office to determine what, if any, charges against that driver are appropriate.
