Motorcyclist killed after hitting deer

BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – A motorcyclist was killed after hitting a deer in Beaver Township Monday.

The fatal accident happened around 9:30 p.m. Monday on Dickinson Road near Hayes Street in Beaver Township, west of Woodland Park, in Newaygo County, according to a Michigan State Police news release.

The driver of the motorcycle was going south on Dickinson when a deer ran into the roadway. The motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

MSP says the driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The name of the driver has not been released.
