MSP investigates suspicious death

CASCO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan State Police are investigating what they are calling a suspicious death northeast of South Haven.

Tuesday, police brought in their crime scene unit and taped off a house in the 300 block of 71st Street in Casco Township where a woman was found dead.

MSP Lt. Chuck Christensen said the 35-year-old woman was found dead of a gunshot wound. He said police had not yet determined whether the death was a homicide or suicide.

Police were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. after the woman’s body was found by a man who had been staying at the house. That man was being questioned Tuesday evening, but was not being called a suspect.

Neighbors said they weren’t told what was happening.

“What is going on right next door to us?” said neighbor Amber Hulsey. “I’m a little nervous right now. No one’s giving us any answers or telling us what’s been going on.”

At nearly midnight, troopers were still on scene. They removed bags of evidence from the vehicle, and took away a car with an Iowa license plate.

An autopsy is scheduled to help determine what happened.
