Prosecutor holds off on charges in bicyclist’s death

ADA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – Prosecutors are holding off on filing charges against the driver who police say hit and killed a bicyclist Wednesday evening in Ada Township.

Family members said Steven Jones, 61, was behind the wheel of an SUV when he hit 52-year-old Jeffery Alan Dykehouse of Grand Rapids around 7 p.m. in the 3200 block of Egypt Valley Avenue NE, east of Grand Rapids.

Investigators said they believe Jones had been drinking and arrested him.

But Thursday, after reviewing the case, the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office said it plans to wait for toxicology results before deciding what charges should be filed against Jones.

24 Hour News 8 spoke with Jones Thursday morning as he left the Kent County jail.

“I wasn’t drunk or anything,” he said. “I do apologize.”
