KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A 15-year-old boy was arrested for carrying a loaded gun in the Edison neighborhood.
Kalamazoo Public Safety received a call from a resident around 9:45 p.m. Thursday who noticed a young man carrying a handgun in the 1200 block of Washington Avenue.
When officers arrived they saw the teen walking on the front porch of a home in the area and tried to approach him, but he fled into the home.
Officers were able to arrest him just inside the doorway and discovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun in his waistband.
The house the teen ran into was not his and the residents did not know him.
The 15-year-old Kalamazoo resident is being held at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home on several charges including carrying a concealed weapon, resisting and obstructing, and illegal entry.

The Edison neighborhood has seen a lot of crime lately.
Michael Day, 13, was shot and killed while riding his bike near the intersection of Lay Boulevard and Race Street on Memorial Day.
Three people have been charged in Day’s murder.
Two other shootings in the month of June also sent two people to the hospital with injuries.
