Have an Emergency Plan for Severe Weather

EP Have a Plan

In West Michigan severe weather is something we all need to be ready for. When it strikes, it is important to have a plan.

Discuss with your household how to best prepare and respond to emergencies. Remember to think through that severe weather can happen where you live, work, learn, and play.

If you are separated from your family have two different places to meet. You can meet at a extended family member’s house who lives in the different neighborhood. You could also meet where one of you work.

Learn how and where to turn off utilities like natural gas, water, and electricity. Always make sure you get educated on how to do this safely.

Identify responsibilities for each member of your family in order to work as a team. Sharing the responsibility will make things easier when the severe weather hits.

Have a out of area contact programmed in everyone’s phones. Don’t forget to keep a cell phone charger with you.

If you have pets make sure that you plan accordingly for them. Include extra food and water for them in your emergency kit and have their travel essentials ready.
