GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman who stabbed and killed her husband nearly a year ago will spend time in prison.

Ynes Lee, 44, was sentenced Monday to between 50 months and 22.5 years in prison. She received credit for 323 days served.

In August 2013, Lee stabbed her estranged husband Bertram Lee during a physical altercation at her Gaines Township apartment. Bertram Lee called 911, was unresponsive by the time emergency responders arrived and died more than a week later at the hospital.

Court documents said Ynes Lee admitted to police she stabbed her husband in the chest with a steak knife, but said he was “physically holding” her at the time. She said they were arguing.

Court records show Bertram Lee had a history of domestic violence convictions. He and Ynes Lee had been married 14 years and was in the process of divorcing.

In May, Lee pleaded no contest to manslaughter and being a habitual offender. In exchange, a charge of second-degree murder was dropped.
