GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — One of two brothers has admitted his involvement in the beating and rape of a prostitute in Grand Rapids and placed blame on his twin.
During a Tuesday status conference, Peter Versluys pleaded guilty to all of the charges against him, including assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, armed robbery, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to rob while armed and being a habitual offender.
He also implicated his twin brother Michael Versluys in taking part in the attack.
Grand Rapids police say the pair robbed and assaulted the prostitute in late May after one of the brothers refused to pay her for participating in sexual acts with him. She sustained severe injuries to the face and head and required “significant” facial reconstruction.
As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend Peter Versluys be sentenced to between 14.25 and 23.75 years in prison.
Michael Versluys faces the same charges as his brother, with the exception of being a habitual offender. He rejected a plea deal and will go to trial.
