Authorities: Girl dies after SW Michigan crash

MASON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a 4-year-old girl has died following a two-vehicle crash in southwestern Michigan that injured her mother and another motorist.

The Cass County sheriff’s office said in a statement Tuesday that Adrianna Chanthavongsavath of Vandalia died following the crash Monday afternoon in Mason Township. The department says the girl wasn’t restrained in a child safety seat at the time of the crash.

The department says the girl’s mother, 25-year-old Linda Chanthavongsavath, was in stable condition at Bronson Hospital and 73-year-old Edwin Powless Jr. of Otsego was in critical condition at South Bend Memorial Hospital.

Linda Chanthavongsavath was driving a car and Powless was driving a pickup truck. The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.
