Recipes to help “Beet the Heat”

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) The great part about summer is the local farmers markets that are all around town. With all the fruits and vegetables imaginable, there are a lot of unique twists you can add to your meals.

The Grand Rapids Downtown Market hosts “Chefs at the Market” every Saturday morning through September. This event brings in local culinary experts to give Market shoppers new ideas about how to prepare their fresh produce, meats, cheeses and dairy products into delightful meals, appetizers, desserts and more.

Their featured chef on July 19 is Abigail Therrien, the executive chef from Terra GR, a locally-sourced farm-to-table restaurant in Grand Rapids. She will demonstrate many different ways to prepare local Michigan produce as well as show a variety of ways to use beets. Therrien’s demo, “Beet the Heat,” will show Market shoppers how to use techniques including roasting, smoking, and pickling to create soups, salads, and even a refreshing beverage using delicious summer produce from right here in Michigan.

WHEN: July 19, 10 a.m.-11 a.m.

WHERE: Market Terrace at the Downtown Market, 435 Ionia SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503
