GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – A 10-year-old girl was killed in a wreck involving what a Kent County sheriff’s sergeant called a golf cart-style vehicle in Gaines Township Friday afternoon.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on a private driveway off East Paris Avenue between 100th Street and 108th Street, according to a release from the sheriff’s department.

When emergency responders got the scene, they tried to revive the girl, Brookelyn Elias, sheriff’s officials said. However, they were unable to do so.

A second person was in the vehicle at the time of the crash – 6-year-old Carter Elias. Sheriff’s officials said he was airlifted to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment and the sergeant at the scene said he suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the crash were not released.
