Man charged in 2004 robbery homicide

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Major Case Team have charged a federal prison inmate with killing a 26-year-old man in 2004.

33-year-old Walter Antraell Wilson was charged with perjury on June 2, 2014 in relation to the 2004 murder. The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a Second- Degree Murder charge for Wilson. He was also charged with being a Habitual Offender-Fourth Offense.

On Friday, Wilson was arraigned and a $500,000 bond was set.

On October 15, 2004, GRPD responded to the 700 block of Neland Ave., S.E., to a possible shooting. When they arrived, they found Robert Anthony Farmer with a gunshot wound. Farmer was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined Farmer had just left a party store when he was approached by someone who tried to rob Farmer.

Farmer was shot during the robbery.

The charges came about from an interview with Wilson in early 2014. Wilson was brought to Grand Rapids from a federal prison in Pennsylvania where he was serving time on an unrelated conviction.
