Man hides from police in basement after shooting

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) – An 18-year-old Kalamazoo man is in jail after breaking into a home while fleeing from police Thursday.

Around 6 p.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to 700 Elizabeth Street on a report of shots fired. Officers found an 18-year-old man who had shot at a 21-year-old male victim during an argument, according to a KPS news release.

While investigating, officers located the suspect who then fled on foot. The suspect broke into a house in the 600 block of William Street and hid the basement, police said.

Police surrounded the house and the suspect’s father was able to convince him to come out, according to the news release.

The suspect was arrested for two felony warrants for two felony warrants, home invasion and resisting and obstructing.
