Motorcyclist killed after crash with tractor

GRATTAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed when two motorcycles collided with a tractor Saturday.

The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of 5 Mile Road near Byrne Avenue in Grattan Township, west of Belding.

Two motorcyclists were traveling east on 5 Mile Road when a tractor was the crossing the road. The drivers of the motorcycles were unable to stop or avoid the tractor and both crashed, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.

Motorcyclist Richard Olthoff died from injuries he sustained during the crash, authorities said.

The other motorcyclist, Luke Knol, was was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been factors, the sheriff’s department said.
