IL man drowns in southwestern MI lake

PENN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities in southwestern Michigan say that a 67-year-old suburban Chicago man drowned while paddle boarding on an inland lake.

Cass County Undersheriff Richard J. Behnke says it happened about 10:30 a.m. Sunday on Donnell Lake. It’s in Penn Township, 5 miles east of Cassopolis and 10 miles north of the Indiana state line.

Behnke says in an email that dispatchers got a call about someone struggling in the water. He says a dive team and other searchers recovered the body of Vincent P. Churak of Evergreen Park, Illinois.

The undersheriff says Churak was an avid swimmer and had a home on the lake.
