GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Former Christian radio show host John Balyo is scheduled to enter a guilty plea on two federal charges on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Balyo, 35, was charged by federal authorities Wednesday with one count of possession of child pornography and one count of sexual exploitation. The exploitation charge is in connection to a case in Kalamazoo County where authorities said Balyo took sexually explicit photos of a 12-year-old boy.
On Thursday, a plea agreement was filed in the case, meaning that if Balyo pleaded guilty to the charges, the U.S. Attorney’s Office would not seek further federal charges, and he will face a minimum of 15 years in prison and a combined maximum of 50 years in prison, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
In June, Balyo was charged in Calhoun County with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Police said he admitted to sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy in Battle Creek in March.
The federal plea agreement does not affect the Calhoun County charge.
