Propaganda Doughnuts wins “Donut Showdown”

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Propaganda Doughnuts in Grand Rapids has gathered a big following since opening on South Division Avenue. Now they’re getting national attention as the first place winner in The Cooking Channel and Food Network’s “Donut Showdown.”

Owner Torrence O’Haire traveled to Toronto to shoot the show and it aired on Friday, July 25. It features three competitors from around North America who compete in two rounds, making doughnuts based on a secret ingredient. O’Haire says he had a big advantage as a chef, since he is familiar with all kinds of ingredients. He had to work with BBQ ribs in a Chinatown-themed episode, and won $10,000! You can watch the episode again at 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, on the Cooking Channel.

O’Haire is now concentrating on his next project: a ramen noodle shop called The Bandit Queen. It is scheduled to open in late August, next to Propaganda Doughnuts at 117A S. Division.
