Making music “fingerstyle”

Drew Alkema playing the guitar

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Drew Alkema is a lucky man. He is one of just 25 people in the world to be invited to participate in the Canadian Fingerstyle Guitar Competition this weekend. Drew has been playing since the age of 10 and he’s 30 years old now. He lives, breathes and thinks guitar music.

This dedication has helped him get to the international competition. There’s no flatpicking in Fingerstyle and it’s a lot more challenging then it looks. The Canadian Fingerstyle Guitar Competition will take place Aug. 1 – Aug. 3.
