Wheelchair sports camp creates hope

ALLENDALE, Mich. (WOOD) — Back for the 30th summer in a row, Mary Free Bed is proud to make possible the Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp! Kids from all over the state are encouraged to exercise their athletic talents, while growing valuable friendships.

With 54 campers and 40 volunteers, the Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp is truly one of a kind! The kids who participate not only perfect their favorite sports, but also learn valuable life-lessons and build confidence through their experiences.

Wheelchair Sports Camps runs for five days, with most of the activities held at the Grand Valley State University Field House. Campers participate in 9 different sports, a dance, and an amazing water fight with the Allendale Fire Department.

The kids can participate in a giant dodgeball tournament, and now for the first time, campers also have the opportunity to learn Karate. Participants have counselors who serve as great role models, as many of them are former campers, or also live with a disability.

The Mary Free Bed Wheelchair Sports Camp gives hope to children who live with physical limitations, and creates lasting memories.
