MSP: Skull found in river a fake

LEONIDAS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan State Police have confirmed to 24 Hour News 8 a skull found in rural St. Joseph County is a fake.

A fisherman reported finding the skull in the river Saturday in the area of Jacksonburg Road Bridge in Leonidas Township, west of Union City, 24 Hour News 8 was told.

“It was very close to where Venus Stewart disappeared, so we were hoping. But it was a fake,” MSP 1st Lt. Chuck Christensen told 24 Hour News 8.

Christensen said an anthropologist inspected the skull and determined it was not real.

Venus Stewart disappeared from her parents’ Colon Twp. home in 2010.  Her husband Doug was convicted of her murder. Her body has never been found.
