GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The woman says she was drugged and raped at what authorities are calling a “rave” in southern Mecosta County.
The party started Saturday night and lasted into Sunday. It drew more than 2,000 to an old farm on 70th Avenue near 5 Mile Road on Hinton Township. Seven people, including the alleged sexual assault victim, were hurt. The 19-year-old who said she was attacked said partygoers were drinking and doing drugs like cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and Molly.
The woman said she went to the party with a group of friends, but became separated from them in the crowd.
“The next minute, I’m in the back of this car being told to take my clothes off,” she said.
She said she tried to get away.
“I remember yelling, telling him to get off of me, let me out of the vehicle,” she said.
After the attack, the woman was taken to the hospital, where she was told she had the horse tranquilizer Ketamine — a known date rape drug — in her system. She doesn’t know how she consumed it, but assumes it was in a drink.
“I took a lot of shots out of a lot of people’s drinks,” she said. “I overdid it. … I shouldn’t have gotten drunk.”
Police say they are investigating the alleged assault.
“I’ve done a lot of crying,” she said. “I don’t want this to ruin me. I still can’t believe this happened.”
As organizers call the event a success, the 19-year-old who says she was attacked is putting out a warning to anyone considering taking part in a similar event.
“It’s stupid,” she said. “It’s very stupid.”
She said she has already gotten the invitations for the next party like this weekend’s. She said she’ll be the one calling the police if she finds out where the next party will be held.
