Clinician Jim Bottenhorn. (Aug. 5, 2014)

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — After a string of very violent acts involving kids in West Michigan, many people are trying to make sense of it all.

In the past five days, four young people have been either killed or injured in violent acts — either stabbings or shootings — perpetrated by another young person.

Clinician Jim Bottenhorn spoke to 24 Hour News 8 Tuesday to help give some perspective on what factors lead up to violence, and the influences kids are facing today.

He discussed the red flags that parents and teachers should watch out for and how youth can be educated on ways to resolve conflict without it resulting in violence.
