Paying tribute to a famous musician

COOPERSVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) Great music is a family tradition for James Popenhagen. From the time he was a little boy, he has been listening to rock and roll – especially the music made by his grandfather and the famous West Michigan musician he played with: Del Shannon. Now Popenhagen travels the country with his own Del Shannon tribute band in honor of Del and his grandpa.

The Del Shannon Tribute show is in Coopersville on Saturday, August 9. The event will benefit the Coopersville Historical Society Museum and Del Shannon Scholarship Fund. It takes place at 5 p.m. at the Centerstage Theater at the Coopersville High School. Advance tickets are available online and at area downtown businesses. Tickets also will be available at the door. Tickets are $10 and $8 for students.

Hear Popenhagen perform the classic “Runaway,” which was written in Battle Creek!
