BELMONT, Mich. (WOOD) — Michelle Wie has withdrawn from the Meijer LPGA Classic due to an injury near her right hand.
The move comes after Wie walked off the course late Thursday afternoon after the ninth hole and entered a medic’s trailer.
After sitting inside the trailer for about 20 minutes, Wie emerged and spoke to the media.
“I don’t know what happened,” she said. “It just kind of started hurting last week and started getting worse and got to the point where I couldn’t really hold a club today. I’m just going to try to get an MRI right now and see what my next steps are.”
Wie also posted the following tweet at about 4:40 p.m. Thursday: “Sorry I had to WD today. Thank you @meijer for hosting an amazing event. I hope to be better soon!”
Wie said she hopes to play on Aug. 14 in the Wegmans LPGA Championship in Pittsford, NY.
