GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) More people are often paying attention to where their food comes from. Instead of relying on the grocery store or even a farm, some are raising chickens in their own back yard to get fresh and nutritious eggs.
WOTV 4 Women Wellness Expert Michele Fife raises chickens at home. She said there are numerous health benefits to eating eggs from her chickens, such as knowing they have a balanced diet without hormones or antibiotics. She says the chickens are also a great family project and are entertaining and fun pets!
There are several hundred varieties of chickens. If you want to consider raising chickens at home, Michele recommends you check with your city of local municipality to make sure it’s legal. Some other things to consider are how much space you have, the building and maintaining of a chicken coop, what to feed the chickens, and the weather where you live.
