HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — One of two people accused of murdering a Park Township man has entered into a plea deal.

Anthony DeLaGarza pleaded guilty on Aug. 4 to two counts of second-degree murder, Ottawa County court records show. As part of a plea agreement, a charge of lying to a police officer was dropped.

Authorities say DeLaGarza and Maryann Castorena murdered 38-year-old Jose Hernandez outside his apartment in January. His body may have lain in the snow near his car for more than a day before being discovered.

Investigators say the motive was Hernandez’s $1.5 million life insurance policy.

In July, DeLaGarza testified against Castorena at her preliminary hearing, describing his attack on Hernandez and her response to it.

DeLaGarza’s sentencing is set for Dec. 22.

Castorena, 49, is Hernandez’s ex-girlfriend and DeLaGarza, 19, lived with him for a time.
