NOTTAWA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – Two people were taken to the hospital after the driver lost control of his car and hit a tree Monday.

The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. on M-86, near Centreville.

Charles Smith of Sturgis was driving eastbound on M-86 when he lost control of his car and hit a tree, according to a St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Smith and his passenger, Michael Wolfinger, were treated on the scene and then taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation. If anyone witnessed the accident, they are asked to call the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office or Central Dispatch.
