Aretha Franklin cancels Muskegon show

Aretha Franklin performs during McDonald's Gospelfest 2013 at the Prudential Center on Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Newark, NJ.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — Soul icon Aretha Franklin has canceled a show in Muskegon that was set for this Saturday.

Franklin would have performed Saturday evening at the L.C. Walker Arena and Event Center.

“We were informed by the management company that the show would be canceled due to the inability of the promoter to meet the obligations he had with Aretha’s talent agency,” said Rob Murphy, the L.C. Walker Arena vice president of business development.

Hundreds of tickets to the show had been sold.

Full refunds will be issued between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at the venue box office. Questions may be directed to the box office at 231.724.5225.

When asked if Franklin would be coming to the L.C. Walker Arena on a different date, Murphy responded, “not that we’re aware of.”

“We don’t anticipate that happening in 2014,” he continued.
