Great summer read: French Milk

French Milk, on the GR Reads summer reading list

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) Summer isn’t over yet, and there’s still time to take part in the GR Reads program through the Grand Rapids Public Library.

This week’s feature is French Milk by Lucy Knisley.  It’s a travel journal made up of drawings, art, writing, and photographs and it reads more like a comic book than a novel.  The story chronicles a six-week trip to Paris the author takes with her mother. The two celebrate milestone birthdays and set out to explore all that the City of Lights has to offer.

In addition to exploring, the pair spends a fair amount of time hanging out in cafes and preparing delicious meals, so the Grand Rapids Public Library added a couple of fabulous opportunities for readers of this book to do the same.

Chef Kathleen Schiefler is hosting two evening French Cuisine classes to share some of the same classic meals that Knisley reveals in her escapades through Paris.  You can expect Croque Monsieur, chocolate mousse, and cheese souffle.

Like all of their programs, this one is free, but class size is limited. If you want to attend, go online and sign up today.  The classes are Wednesday, August 13 and Thursday, August 14 at 7:30pm at St. Isidore Catholic Church.
