Meeting with BC city manager finalists set

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Battle Creek residents will have the chance to meet the five finalists for the city manager position next week.

The meet-and-greet will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 in the Lew Boyd Room at Burnham Brook Community Center located at 200 W. Michigan Ave., according to a release from the city.

The firm that conducted the search for the new city manager says it received applications from 46 candidates in 20 states. The city commission held a special meeting Aug. 7 to select the finalists.

One of the five finalists is Battle Creek’s interim city manager Susan Bedsole, who took over the position after it was vacated by Ken Tsuchiyama in February.

The other finalists are:

  • David Buckingham of Arlington, Va., director of U.S. Army environmental programs at The Pentagon
  • Rebecca Fleury of Kalamazoo, Village of Middleville manager and finance director
  • Stephen Rasmussen of Jefferson City, Mo., Interim Solutions LLC. executive vice president
  • James Slaughter of Beacon, N.Y., City of Newburgh director of economic development
