MSP: Motorcyclist killed in crash near Kent City


TYRONE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A motorcyclist was killed when he was hit by a vehicle trying to turn into a private drive, according to Michigan State Police.

The accident happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of 17 Mile Road NW near Kent City.

A 2004 Chevy Impala, driven by Cody Jerls of Kent City, was traveling eastbound on 17 Mile Road when he tried to turn left into a private driveway and turned into the path of motorcycle traveling westbound, according to MSP news release.

When medical personnel arrived, they pronounced the motorcyclist dead on scene.

Eastbound and westbound 17 Mile Road between Barber Creek Avenue and Sparta Avenue is closed due to the crash, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The accident is still under investigation and alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash.

The identity of the man is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified.
