GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — ArtPrize expects about 100 artists to sign-up looking for a place to stay during the world’s largest art competition.
The artist hosting program allows the public to open their homes to artists, whether it’s for a weekend or for the entire competition.
Organizers said the program cuts down on costs for traveling artists.
Those who want to be hosts can sign-up online and submit the dates they’re available. ArtPrize will then match the host with an artist looking for similar lodging dates.
ArtPrize officials said there’s a big need for hosts this year as they’re seeing a lot of out-of-state and international artists coming to Grand Rapids for ArtPrize 2014.
“I think it’s a great experience for the host families and its a different way to experience ArtPrize because you’re experiencing the event through the eyes of your guest who’s an artist,” said ArtPrize Volunteer Coordinator Brooke Hotchkiss.
The deadline to sign-up to host an artist is September 3.
ArtPrize is also looking for volunteers to welcome over 400,000 visitors to Grand Rapids during the competition. A volunteer kickoff event will be held on August 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Ledyard Building in downtown Grand Rapids.
There are a variety of volunteer opportunities to fit everyone’s schedule and interests during ArtPrize. The online self-registration and schedule-building system at artprize.org allows volunteers to select the positions and shifts they are interested in.
