Boy riding bike hit by car; in serious condition

NOTTAWA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A child has been hospitalized in serious condition after he was hit by car.

Joyce Waltke, 79, was heading southbound on M-66 near the M-86 South Junction around 5 p.m. Wednesday when an 8-year-old on a bicycle pulled out in front of her, according to St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department.

The young boy, from Centreville, was attempting to cross M-66 from M-86 to Bonham Road eastbound and didn’t see the oncoming car.

Waltke tried to avoid hitting the boy, but the bicycle side-swiped her vehicle.

The 8-year-old boy suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken by Aero Med to Bronson Hospital.

The driver and her passenger were not hurt.
